The Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer accused the government of “pitting region against region” and “bargaining with people's lives.” Meanwhile the Chancellor Rishi Sunak is expected to offer more emergency support to the hospitality industry. He’s expected to offer help to pubs, bars and restaurants operating under Tier 2 restrictions, which can remain open but are seeing a big reduction in takings.
